Test Facilities

Končar’s laboratories provide the means and equipment for testing and measuring activities which in part serve as a fundamental prerequisite for research and development. Our transformers have been validated according to all relevant standards, giving them an evident global character. The testing chain comprises a High Voltage and a Medium Voltage laboratory and several in-process testing points.

Our in-house testing capabilities are as follows:

  • AC withstand voltage tests up to 1200 kV
  • Accuracy class tests for instrument transformers up to 800 kV
  • Partial discharge (PD) measurement with < 2 pC noise levels

The sector for quality, inspection and testing of instrument transformers and calibration of measuring equipment has three accreditations.

Department of Inspection KONČAR – Instrument Transformers d.d. is accredited by the Croatian Accreditation Agency (HAA) as a type C inspection body in accordance with the HRN EN 1SO/IEC 17020:2012 standard.

The department of the testing and calibration laboratory is accredited by the Croatian Accreditation Agency (HAA) for testing instrument transformers and calibration of measuring equipment for testing the accuracy class of instrument transformers in accordance with the HRN EN ISO/IEC 17025:2017 standard.

All relevant and required type testing can be performed at the Institute’s internationally accredited laboratories. ILAC (International Laboratory Accreditation Cooperation) traceability is established though HAA (Croatian Accreditation Agency) accreditation in order to satisfy international testing authorities’ requirements.

The Institute’s capabilities are as follows:

  • Lightning-impulse voltage up to 2400 kV
  • Chopped lightning-impulse voltage up to 2400 kV
(linearly rising front-chopped impulse, steepness up to 3000 kV/µs)
  • Switching-impulse voltage up to 1600 kV
  • Short-circuit current testing up to 100 kA
  • Alternating voltage up to 1000 kV
  • Direct voltage up to 300 kV
  • Dielectric tests in wet conditions
  • Dielectric tests in wet conditions
